Whiplash charges a storage fee of $0.45 per cubic foot per month at a minimum monthly charge of $250. On the first of each month, your storage fee is calculated and a charge is added to your account for the previous month's storage.
How Storage Fees are Calculated
Storage rates are based on the actual unit size plus a little padding. The first 100 pieces of an item are charged at 4x their literal volume. The rest of that item's inventory is billed at 1.5x its volume.
# Turn item dimensions in inches to cubic feet per unit
(L * W * H)/1728 = UNIT_CUBE
# The first 100 units are billed at 4x the storage rate.
UNIT_CUBE * 4 * RATE = FIRST_100
# The rest are billed at 1.25x the storage rate.
UNIT_CUBE * 1.5 * RATE = REST
- A vinyl record, 12 * 12 * 0.125".
- We have 1,000 units.
- The RATE is $0.45 per cubic foot.
- UNIT_CUBE is about 0.0104 cubic feet.
- 0.0104 * 4 * $0.45 = ~$0.0187 per unit for the first 100.
- 0.0104 * 1.5 * $0.45 = ~$0.0070 per unit for the rest.
- The first 100 vinyls cost about $1.88 to store. The rest of the units cost about $6.33 to store.
- In total, storing 1000 vinyls would cost about $8.21 per month.

You can copy or download this storage calculator tool to estimate costs (note: you don't need to request access to copy or download). If you like to think of stock in terms of pallets, you can enter pallet quantities to get a rough idea of how much a pallet of goods will cost you to store. Note that we will always calculate with cubic footage, never by the pallet.
Minimum storage fee
If your calculated monthly storage fee is under $250, we'll charge the difference. If you are shipping from multiple facilities, the minimum does not apply on a per-facility basis—it's network-wide.
|Product||Size||Price per first 100 in a SKU||Price for remainder in SKU|
|Vinyls||12 x 12 x .125"||$0.02 each||$0.007 each|
|T-Shirts||12 x 9 x 1"||$0.11 each||$0.04 each|
|Shoes||12 x 8 x 6"||$0.60 each||$0.23 each|
The minimum storage fee applies network-wide, but the first 100 units of each Item will be billed at 4x their literal volume per facility.
"I'm just sending a few items to Whiplash to make sure the integration is working correctly, and that the product looks good before I send you everything. Can you waive the minimum fee for the first month?"
The storage fee doesn't kick in until the end of the second month post signup, giving you time to send us a small batch of inventory and see how well we work. It makes sense to be cautious and dip your toe in the water—you can also create a Trial Account.
